Atop a hill on the outskirts of town lies an adorable castle that has been the inspiration behind Caroline O’Donald’s fairy-tale fantasies ever since she was a little girl. Now as an adult, she’s put herself up for auction and, lo and behold, her beloved castle’s prince is the winning bidder! Assuming the castle will be more magnificent in real life than it is in her dreams, she steps inside only to find that it’s run-down and in need of a lot of love…much like its prince, the handsome recluse Gideon Tremayne!

I thought this was a sweet romance, one in a series revolving around a charity auction when organized women get auctioned off for people (men) who need some sort of organizational work in their jobs. At least that's the surface story. This particular story wasn't my favorite of the series, but it was still good. The characters were interesting, but sometimes not very believable. Caroline had a plan in her life after being heartbroken too many times by men to have a family through a man who would be a friend rather than a romantic lover. This idea was laughable though, after you meet Caroline and realize she's extremely lively and fun-loving, so I found it rather hard to believe she would think of wanting this kind of marriage. Gideon is a man from a cold-hearted family who didn't want him, and as a result was convinced he was not capable of loving anyone, and would not inflict on a wife or child the same cold-blooded life in which he was raised in. However, once you meet Gideon and see how caring he is regarding employees and considerate, you'd see immediately uncaring is the last thing he is. His courteousness sometimes was to the point of being completely unbelievable, as NO employer would go of their way to do half the things this man did for his hired help. Obviously, love and lust bloomed between the two, plus adding in a refugee baby in the mix, and its a great recipe for love and disaster. The obstacles and attitude these people had were sometimes hard to stomach, simply because it seemed often the author forgot what personality she gave her own characters and would often make them do things that simply did not fit. However, I highly recommend it as it was a sweet romance and the pay-off was quite satisfying.

As a child, Caroline O'Donald often imagined what the inside of the Tremayne mansion looked like. Now, as an adult involved in the Summerstaff Labor Auction for Charity, she will find out firsthand.
In the blink of an eye, Caroline finds herself auctioned for $20,000 to rich, shockingly sexy Gideon Tremayne, the new owner of the Tremayne mansion. In exchange for his $20,000 bid, Caroline will be in residence with Gideon, working to get the mansion ready to receive Gideon's matchmaking sister, Erin, and her friends. If there was one thing Gideon didn't need in his life, it was a woman, and Caroline's harmless presence should be enough to throw Erin's matchmaking plans off and assure her that he is just fine without her help. He just never expected to fall in love along the way.
Likeable characters, quick dialogue, and a well-written tale make "At the Billionaire's Bidding" a keeper.
